A tragic collision on Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach, Volusia County, claimed the lives of a 38-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl, while leaving three others injured. The incident, which occurred around 3:45 p.m., forced the closure of northbound lanes near mile marker 272, south of U.S. 1, for several hours on Monday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a Ford Fiesta, a Toyota Corolla, and a Ford Ranger, all traveling northbound on I-95 toward U.S. 1. The Fiesta, situated in the inside lane, lost control, veering off the roadway onto the inside shoulder. The driver, a 38-year-old Palm Coast woman, attempted to correct the vehicle’s path, resulting in a collision with the Corolla. Subsequently, the Fiesta spun into the center lane, directly in the path of the Ranger, which collided with its left side.
The impact caused the Corolla to rotate into the center median, colliding with the guardrail. Tragically, the driver of the Fiesta was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 2-year-old girl, a passenger in the rear of the vehicle, succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. Additionally, a 20-year-old Palm Coast woman, a front-seat passenger in the Fiesta, sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. The driver of the Corolla, a 33-year-old Kissimmee woman, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital, along with the 59-year-old Palm Coast man driving the Ranger, who sustained minor injuries as well.
Following the investigation, all lanes of I-95 have since reopened, although the crash remains under scrutiny by authorities. Our hearts are with the victims and their families at this time.
